摘要: BACKGROUND:Themonosialoganglioside(GM1)isapopulartopicofresearchbutthebibliometricanalysisofGM1overthedecadesinScienceCitationIndex-Expanded(SCI-E)remainspoorlyunderstood.OBJECTIVE:ToidentifytheglobalresearchandtoimprovetheunderstandingofresearchtrendsintheGM1fieldfrom1942to2011.DESIGN:Abibliometricstudy.DATARETRIEVAL:WeperformedabibliometricanalysisbasedontheSCI-EpublishedbytheInstituteofScientificInformation.INCLUSIVECRITERIA:ArticlescloselyrelatedtoGM1wereincluded.Exclusivecriteria:(1)Articlesrelatedtogangliosidosis,disialo-ganglioside,trisialo-gangliosideorgangliosideGQIb.(2)Documenttypessuchasmeetingabstracts,reviews,proceedingspapers,notes,andletters.MAINOUTCOMEMEASURES:(1)Typeofpublicationoutput;(2)numberofauthoroutputs;(3)distributionofoutputinsubjectcategories;(4)publicationdistributionofcountries;(5)distributionofoutputinjournals,and(6)distributionofcitationsineachdecade.RESULTS:During1942to2011,therewere10126papersonGM1thatwereaddedtotheSCI.Articles(8004)werethemostfrequentlyuseddocumenttypecomprising79.0%,followedbymeetingabstracts,reviewsandproceedingspapers.ResearchonGM1couldbefoundintheSCIfrom1942,itwasdevelopedinthe1970s,greatlyincreasedinthe1980s,andreachedapeakinthe1990s,anditwasslightlydecreasedin2000.ThedistributionofsubjectcategoriesshowedthatGM1researchcoveredbothclinicalandbasicscienceresearch.TheUSA,Japan,andGermanywerethethreemostproductivecountries,andthepublicationnumbersintheUSAwerehighestinalldecades.TheJournalofBiologicalChemistry,JournalofNeurochemistryandBiochemistrywerecoresubjectjournalsinGM1studiesineachdecade.CONCLUSION:ThisstudyhighlightsthetopicsinGM1researchthatarebeingpublishedaroundtheworld.
